PUTRAJAYA: Hannah Yeoh, the Youth and Sports Minister, has expressed her gratitude for the generous allocation of funds for sports-related activities in Budget 2024. She believes that this allocation will fulfill all the requests in the ministry’s wishlist. Yeoh also highlighted the game-changing impact of tax incentives for sports equipment, which she believes will benefit the industry.

Yeoh extended her thanks to the Prime Minister for the sports-friendly allocation, stating that nearly all the ministry’s wishes were granted. She particularly praised the new tax exemptions for sports equipment and training, which she believes will encourage parents to invest in their children’s sports activities. She emphasized that such investments will not only benefit the sports industry but also change the lifestyle of children, fostering a love for sports that continues into adulthood.

During the launch of the National Sports Day in Putrajaya, Yeoh revealed that the allocation for disabled athletes has increased by 20%. She emphasized the importance of developing sports infrastructure alongside talent to ensure the growth of various sports. Yeoh highlighted Malaysia’s talent in sports such as horse riding, water sports, and karate, and called for simultaneous development of facilities. While Malaysia has achieved success in sports like squash, she stressed the need for adequate facilities to support further talent development.

Regarding HSN202, Yeoh reported that around 30,000 people attended the launch in Putrajaya, with 66 sports events taking place. She expects approximately four million people to participate nationwide in this event. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged for greater collaboration between ministries to promote and empower sports activities. He emphasized the importance of staying fit and healthy, stating that sports are an integral part of daily life.
