Residents of SS3 in Petaling Jaya are expressing their dissatisfaction with the faulty streetlights in their neighborhood. Resident Leow Sun Huat shared that the repaired lamps would become faulty again even after the appointed contractors fixed them. According to Leow, at least six residents have lodged over 15 complaints about 13 streetlight failures since July. The majority of the lamps have been repaired at least eight times already. Leow added, “Every time the lights get repaired, they go out again after a few days.”

Leow highlighted that the streetlights in Jalan SS3/1, SS3/2, SS3/4, SS3/6, SS3/7, and SS3/10 were not only repeatedly faulty but also inconsistent in their operation. It is not uncommon for the lights to only be turned on for a few hours daily or a few days each week. He expressed concerns about the safety of pedestrians and vehicles in the evenings and mentioned that many older residents in the area start their walks at 5.30 am.

While Leow appreciated Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) for addressing the complaints within 48 hours on each occasion, he felt frustrated because the solutions provided were not permanent. Leow suggested that a thorough investigation might be necessary to find a more permanent solution. He added, “Despite our numerous complaints, the problem is not resolved.”

TNB responded to StarMetro, confirming their awareness of the residents’ complaints regarding non-functional streetlights. They assured that all complaints have been successfully addressed within 48 hours. TNB also mentioned that they conduct periodic monitoring and inspections of their streetlights as part of their standard procedures for community safety. However, they encouraged residents to contact TNB CareLine at 15454 or reach out via the TNB Careline Facebook account if they encounter further issues with the streetlights.
