The Perak government is aiming to have 3,000 more traders adopt cashless payments by the end of the year, according to the state entrepreneur development committee chairman Salbiah Mohamed. She stated that there is a need for more awareness to educate traders about the benefits of going cashless. Although the initial target is 3,000, they hope that more traders will be interested in transitioning to cashless payments. Salbiah made these remarks after visiting a farmers’ market near Stadium Perak in Ipoh. She also mentioned that the state has collaborated with approximately 10 banks for this purpose.
Salbiah emphasized that going cashless will not only benefit traders and their businesses but also have a positive impact on the environment. However, some smaller traders still prefer the traditional method due to the need for quick access to cash. She assured that the state and participating banks will make efforts to educate traders about the cashless system.
One vegetable trader, known as Sal, shared that her customers generally prefer cash payments. Although they have the option to pay via QR code, customers who spend between RM1 and RM5 usually opt for cash. The QR code payment method is more commonly used by customers who make bulk purchases or spend more than RM30. by ILI AQILAH
