IPOH: Perak is preparing for Visit Perak Year 2024 and expects to see an increase in flights from countries in Asia, according to Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The Perak Mentri Besar revealed that the state government has begun discussions with several airlines to establish flights to Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Perak.
“We are also discussing this matter with the Transport Ministry. At the moment, we cannot disclose the specific cities, but they are located within Asia,” he told reporters after attending the Karnival Mesra Anak Muda at Stadium Indera Mulia on Sunday (Sept 17).
“Loh Sze Yee, the chairman of the state tourism, industry, investment, and corridor development committee, along with Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, the chairman of the public transport committee, are in discussions with the airline companies.
“We are awaiting clearance from the ministry before making any announcements,” he added, mentioning that the airport currently offers daily flights to Singapore and Johor.
Regarding other developments, Saarani stated that approximately RM7 million has been allocated to repair and enhance several dilapidated tourist attractions in the state.
“Attractions such as the Pasir Salak Historical Complex are in need of renovation and upgrades,” he said.
“The allocation has been approved, and we hope that the work can be completed as soon as possible,” he added.
In July of last year, StarMetro reported on the poor conditions of the complex, located about 70 kilometers from Ipoh.
Visitors had raised concerns about the deteriorating buildings, the lack of tour guides, and the inadequate road signs leading to the location.
