KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional will field 108 candidates in six states’ upcoming state polls, according to coalition chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Of the 108 candidates, about 63% will be new faces, said Zahid. Only 18% are incumbents, while nearly 20% are candidates who previously contested but chose to run again.
Ahmad Zahid highlighted that this indicates continuity between old and new. He also stated that the majority of Barisan candidates will be youths and women.
“87% of our candidates possess high academic qualifications, including professionals,” added Ahmad Zahid.
The state polls on Aug 12 will feature a total of 245 seats in Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, and Negri Sembilan. Stay tuned for more updates.
