KUALA LUMPUR: In the upcoming six state elections on Aug 12, Barisan Nasional’s strategic communications director, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, has emphasized the need for the party to introduce more new faces. He believes that Barisan should bring a fresh perspective to the Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan state elections, while still acknowledging the relevance of previous candidates in certain constituencies. Reflecting on the recent Melaka and Johor state elections, which saw the introduction of many new candidates, Ahmad Shabery expects a similar move for the upcoming elections. His statements were made during his appearance as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara program on July 11.
According to Ahmad Shabery, Barisan Nasional’s preparations for the upcoming polls are proceeding smoothly. The party is committed to collaborating with other parties in the unity government to make a significant impact in the contested seats. He further stated that they would await the final preparations before the nomination of candidates, emphasizing that the upcoming election would differ from previous ones, not only in terms of technique and tactics but also in the manner in which they present themselves to the voters. Ahmad Shabery, who also serves as the chairman of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), expressed his confidence in the party’s ability to embrace different approaches and engage with the electorate in a unique and compelling manner.
The six states, namely Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan, are scheduled to hold the elections on Aug 12. Nominations are set to take place on July 29, with early voting scheduled for Aug 8. – Bernama
