KUALA LUMPUR:Bukit Aman will focus its efforts on alleviating traffic woes as people rush back to their respective states to vote for the six state elections on Saturday (Aug 12).

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department(JSPT) deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar said over 3,000 personnel would be deployed as they start their operations to ensure traffic flows smoothly between Aug 11 and Aug 13.

“We expect over 1.9 million vehicles to be on the NSE (North-South Expressway) and 150,000 vehicles on the LPT (East Coast Highway).

“Our main focus is to ensure traffic is smooth and controlled for all road users as they return to vote,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 11).

He said they would also place an emphasis on highways, federal roads, state roads and hotspots in Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

“We will also be monitoring highway exits and intersections with traffic lights if extreme congestion occurs.

“We wish all road users safe travels as they head back to their various states to vote,” he said.

DCP Mohd Nasri reminded motorists to always be tolerant while driving, obey traffic rules and the instructions of police officers in the field.

“Motorists should also get enough rest and ensure that their vehicles are well maintained before they start their journeys.

“If you do experience fatigue while on the road, find the nearest rest stop and get some rest before continuing on your journey,” he said.
