PETALING JAYA: Chow Kon Yeow has been nominated for a second term as Penang chief minister if Pakatan Harapan retains control in the upcoming elections, according to Anthony Loke. The DAP secretary-general revealed that the decision was unanimous and made during a meeting attended by key leaders such as Lim Guan Eng, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, and M. Kulasegaran. Loke further mentioned that the decision has been communicated to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who acknowledged it as the Chairman of Pakatan.
Chow Kon Yeow has been serving as the Penang chief minister since 2018. However, a major renewal for DAP members in the Penang state exco lineup will take place if Pakatan secures the mandate to form the government. This renewal is deemed essential to ensure a seamless transition to young, dynamic, and capable DAP leaders in Penang, emphasized Loke. The final list of DAP candidates will be determined by the party’s candidate selection committee within the following week. “At least a week before nomination day, we will unveil our candidates,” Loke specified.
The state elections for Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will be held simultaneously on August 12, with early polling set on August 8. July 29 has been designated as nomination day.
