PETALING JAYA: The swing of votes in Penang towards Perikatan Nasional has left DAP feeling “scared,” according to Mohd Yusni Mohd Piah, the State PAS Deputy Commissioner.
Yusni stated on Tuesday (July 11) that “The shift of the people’s votes to Perikatan Nasional has become a concern for Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional, to a point where DAP has to play the 3R (race, religion, and royalty) sentiment to gain votes.”
He confidently added, “Insya-Allah, Perikatan will win close to 20 seats in Penang in the upcoming state polls.”
Elaborating further, Yusni mentioned that out of the 40 seats in Penang, 26 are mixed seats and 14 are Malay majority seats with at least 60% Malay voters.
“In the 15th General Election (GE15), the Malay seats in Penang swung towards Perikatan,” he revealed.
Perikatan’s success in the Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seats from Barisan, as well as the victory in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s family’s legacy seat of Permatang Pauh, where Perikatan candidate Muhammad Fawwaz Muhammad defeated Nurul Izzah Anwar, demonstrates their strong performance.
“Election Commission data shows that Perikatan won majority support from first time voters,” Yusni highlighted.
In GE14, DAP claimed victory in 19 out of the 40 state seats contested in Penang, followed by PKR with 14 seats. Amanah, Bersatu, and Umno each secured two seats, while PAS only managed a win in a single seat.
