Pakatan Harapan candidate Mohd Amran Sakir has called for disabled voters to be given priority and provided with more accessible facilities when they vote. He made this statement following his visit to the SK Gesir Tengah voting centre in Hulu Bernam on Saturday.

Prior to his visit to SK Gesir Tengah, Mohd Amran had already cast his vote at SK Kalumpang at 8am. He took the opportunity to assess the conditions and accessibility of all the polling areas in Hulu Bernam.

During his visit, he encountered Mohd Shahril Ramli, a 39-year-old disabled individual from Kuala Kubu Baru. Mohd Shahril voiced his concerns and urged the Election Commission to prioritize the needs of the disabled and elderly, especially in the Hulu Selangor district.

“The simple act of getting out of bed and coming to the polling centre can be extremely challenging for some disabled individuals. The Election Commission should make it easier for us to cast our votes,” Mohd Shahril said.

He further explained the difficulties he faced due to his mobility issues and the steep slope at SK Gesir Tengah, where assistance is required to vote. Mohd Shahril shared how he relies on others for help throughout the entire journey from his home in Kuala Kubu Baru MDHS quarters.

“I was determined to cast my vote today. Unfortunately, during the 15th General Election last year, I was bedridden and unable to do so,” added Mohd Shahril.

Mohd Amran is running against Perikatan Nasional’s Mu’Izzuddeen Mayyuddin in the upcoming election. In the previous election, Datuk Rosni Sohar from Barisan Nasional narrowly won the seat, securing 8,164 votes compared to Mohd Amran’s 8,144 votes. Muhamed Salleh Ri of PAS received 2,554 votes.
