PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has announced its candidates for the Dengkil and Sungai Pelek state seats ahead of the official announcement for the upcoming state polls.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Perikatan chairman, revealed that Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh, former Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry secretary-general, will be the coalition’s candidate for the Dengkil seat.

Jamil served as the ministry’s secretary-general from 2016 until his retirement in 2019.

“He retired as the secretary-general of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and recently became a Bersatu member. We decided to field a candidate who has made significant contributions to the country,” said Muhyiddin.

Muhyiddin made this announcement during the Ceramah Perdana Jelajah Selangor Baharu – Kita Bangkit PN Sepang at the Markas PAS Labohan Dagang, where he also launched the Sepang Perikatan Nasional election fund.

For Sungai Pelek, Perikatan will nominate Sepang Bersatu chief Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Ghazali.

In GE14, Pakatan Harapan’s Ronnie Liu won the Sungai Pelek seat with 13,484 votes, securing a majority of 6,585 votes.

However, Liu has recently declared his departure from the party after 41 years.

The Dengkil seat was won by Bersatu candidate Adhif Syan Abdullah with 21,172 votes, prevailing with a majority of 6,934 votes.

Muhyiddin also emphasized that the state polls will gauge the public’s acceptance of the federal government.

“Although only one box (state) will be marked on the ballot paper, it will indicate whether voters in all six states support the unity government,” he said, urging people to exercise their right to vote.
