KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah is ready to dispatch a team to provide support for candidates participating in the Aug 12 state elections in peninsular Malaysia, according to Gagasan Rakyat information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan. However, their assistance will be contingent upon whether they are required and a decision made by the party’s supreme council. “We wholeheartedly back the leadership of the Madani Malaysia government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” stated Titingan, adding, “We are eagerly awaiting further instructions to lend our full support to all the candidates representing the unity government in these six states.” Titingan made these remarks during a press conference in Tawau on Friday (July 14).
Gagasan Rakyat, under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, is a key part of the seven-party ruling coalition Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the state government. Recently, Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin stated that they would be deploying campaigners to assist unity candidates in Selangor. If necessary, they are also prepared to extend their support to candidates in other states. Additionally, Parti KDM leader Datuk Peter Anthony announced their intention to contribute to the campaign efforts for candidates in Selangor.
The Election Commission has scheduled simultaneous polls for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah on Aug 12, with the nomination set for July 29.
