KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno leader Khairy Jamaluddin has remained tight-lipped about his decision on which side he will support in the upcoming state elections. Khairy, who was sacked from Umno in January, has stated that he currently plans to support his “friends” in the polls.
“I am unsure if I’ll be given a chance to speak at any election rallies, but if there are any of my friends contesting, I will certainly be paying them a visit,” Khairy said. “It just so happens that most of them are now in Perikatan Nasional,” he added after a dialogue session with students at UCSI University on Monday (July 10).
When asked about which coalition he is likely to support, Khairy mentioned that it would depend on the manifesto of the parties involved. “My decision remains to be seen as we don’t have a full idea yet of the manifestos of either side,” he said.
Previously, on June 19, Khairy was reported to have given his backing to Perikatan in the upcoming state elections after a meeting with coalition chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
