KUALA LUMPUR: Police will be closely monitoring the Election Commission headquarters and all political party locations to ensure a smooth state election process on Saturday (Aug 12).
Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the city police chief, stated that his personnel have taken all necessary precautions to handle any unexpected situations.
He added, “Although Kuala Lumpur is not participating in the state elections, several political party headquarters are located here. People tend to gather here for processions and demonstrations.”
Addressing reporters on Friday (Aug 11), he confirmed that any decision related to the polls will be made at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya, and the police will ensure the safety of the area and prevent any disturbances.
Furthermore, he stated that they will closely monitor the situation and gather intelligence to promptly detect any potential threats.
He said, “We will maintain surveillance throughout the state elections until the results are announced. Our goal is to prevent illegal gatherings or processions from taking place.” He also mentioned that no notices have been received about any planned gatherings during this period.
If necessary, roadblocks will be established in certain areas to ensure safety and security.
He emphasized, “Our Team Cantas is prepared to be deployed.”
Comm Mohd Shuhaily urged all parties involved to accept victory or defeat graciously.
He said, “Let cooler heads prevail, and for those who wish to celebrate their victory, please do so at enclosed premises or within their own party headquarters.”
He added, “We will take strong action against anyone who intentionally breaks the law.”
