In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, Anthony Loke, the party secretary-general, announced that Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim and Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying will not be participating in the state polls.
Rumors had suggested that Sim and Lim were potential candidates for chief ministership, however, Loke confirmed that they will not be contesting any state seats.
The speculation was that if Sim and Lim were elected in state seats, they would resign from their ministerial positions and be appointed as Penang exco members under caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. This would be a stepping stone towards becoming the chief minister.
When asked if DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng would contest in the state election, Loke stated that the announcement will be made next week.
