Mother-of-six Anfaal Saari (PH-Amanah) has emerged as the winner in the Taman Templer state seat in Selangor, with a majority of 467 votes. The 44-year-old first-time candidate received a total of 22,247 votes, defeating former state exco member Zaidy Abdul Talib (PN-PAS) who garnered 21,780 votes. Muda’s Aida Rahman secured 765 votes.
Anfaal’s victory was significant not only for herself but also because she is the daughter of former Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib. Her father was present at the Selayang Municipal Council lobby when she was declared the winner of the seat.
In the previous 14th General Election, Pakatan’s Mohd Sani Hamzan had won the Taman Templer seat with a majority of 7,903 votes.
The Rawang seat was also contested in this election, and PKR’s Chua Wei Kiat successfully retained the seat with a majority of 25,658 votes. Chua, 44, received a total of 39,168 votes, while Perikatan’s R. Rejean Kumar secured 13,510 votes.
In the previous election, Chua had won with a majority of 23,860 votes.
In the neighboring constituency of Kuang, Bersatu candidate Mohd Rafiq Abdullah emerged as the winner with 18,494 votes. Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican, 53, received 13,619 votes, and former Kuang assemblyman Salleh Amiruddin secured 1,287 votes.
In the previous election, Salleh had won the Kuang seat with 9,845 votes.
