TANJONG KARANG: Perikatan Nasional’s Nurul Syazwani Noh received a boost when her family, including veteran politician Tan Sri Noh Omar, joined her at the polling centre. Alongside her were her mother Puan Sri Dr Aishah Salleh, her husband Hisyam Hedzril Nor Hashim, their young son Qal Qadri, six, and her younger half-brother Muhammad Nur Isyraff, 18. “They have been my pillar of strength and the force behind me throughout this struggle. I’m grateful for having them by my side,” she said.
After casting her vote at the SK Sungai Burong polling centre on Saturday (Aug 12), the 35-year-old lawyer stated that she would spend the remainder of the afternoon visiting all 19 polling centres in the Permatang state seat. “I have campaigned hard over the last two weeks and I hope the people will make a wise choice. I apologize to the voters if there were any shortcomings or wrongdoing by me and my team during the campaign period.”
She urged Selangor voters to seize the day and come out to vote. Nurul Syazwani left Umno after her father was expelled from the party this year. She subsequently joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and is now representing Perikatan Nasional in Permatang.
In the Permatang state seat, she is facing off against Pakatan Harapan’s Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri from PKR. Nurul Syazwani’s father had been the Member of Parliament for the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency for six terms until 2022.
Tan Sri Noh Omar expressed his satisfaction with Nurul Syazwani’s smooth campaign and the positive response from the public. “The voting process has been good and peaceful so far. It shows the people’s political maturity,” he said.
Regarding the election outcome in Selangor, Noh stated that Perikatan was likely to win as Barisan Nasional, their former ally, now has a new partnership with DAP. “It was the same party that caused their downfall previously. With that, it is likely to see Pakatan Harapan returning as the opposition in Selangor again,” he explained.
