SELANGOR PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi turned up in good spirits and waved at the crowd outside Sekolah Rendah Agama SiJangkang, Telok Panglima Garang, before he walked in to vote.
Dr Ahmad Yunus, 58, is Perikatan Nasional’s candidate for the SiJangkang state seat in Kuala Langat, Selangor.
On seeing him, many in the crowd whipped out their smartphones and turned into paparazzi momentarily to snap photos of him and upload them to their social media accounts.
Media photographers who had arrived as early as 7am from a distance to capture the moment as Dr Ahmad Yunus cast his vote.
The incumbent, born and bred in SiJangkang, told newsmen fewer people were present owing to the light morning rain but he believed the crowds would turn out later on.
Villagers surrounding the school area stood at the fence and across Jalan Batu 8, waiting to get a glimpse of their local boy.
In 2018, Dr Ahmad Yunus won SiJangkang with a 1,677-vote majority by garnering 12,688 votes against Sulaiman Mohd Karli (BN-Umno) with 10,420 votes and Mohd Hamidi Abu Bakar (PH-Bersatu) with 11,011 votes.
SiJangkang is one of the 26 constituencies in Selangor that is seeing a straight fight. Dr Ahmad Yunus is facing Mohd Al-Hafizi Abu Bakar of Barisan Nasional.
