KOTA KINABALU: Upko, a component of Pakatan Harapan, believes that the upcoming state elections provide a critical opportunity for graft busters to display their dedication in combating corruption. According to Felix Joseph Saang, the Youth chief of Upko, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should leverage the elections as a platform to fight against graft. Saang emphasized that this effort aligns with the unity government’s sincere commitment in tackling corruption. He further encouraged the public to choose leaders with integrity, vision, ethics, and transparency instead of those involved in corruption or money politics. Saang stated, “Every election, particularly in rural areas, money politics is rampant. Therefore, I believe that the upcoming elections in the six states offer the best opportunity to demonstrate the eradication of corrupt practices and vote-buying.” He urged the MACC to uphold its commitment and closely monitor the elections, particularly during the campaign period, to prevent any corruption-related activities. Saang added that corruption in elections not only poses a threat to the nation, but it also harms and causes long-term damage to the people.
