PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan have reached a resolution on all issues regarding overlapping seats, according to Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. This development sets the stage for Barisan to shift its focus towards the upcoming polls. Despite this positive update, Ahmad Zahid refrained from disclosing the details of the “contentious” constituencies, which is believed to involve one or two seats. “It is an internal matter between Barisan and Pakatan. Let us settle it among ourselves. In fact, it has already been settled,” he conveyed to reporters on Thursday (July 13).
Following the Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council meeting on Tuesday night, Ahmad Zahid and Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a four-eyed meeting to finalize this matter. When asked about the allocation of the seats in question, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that it doesn’t matter which party receives them. The most important aspect is that unity government parties practice togetherness, understanding, and compromise.
In the upcoming polls, Barisan will compete in slightly over 100 seats in Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. The coalition is expected to announce all its candidates on July 21.
