SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Harapan’s Danial Al-Rashid emerged as the winner of the Batu Tiga (N41) state seat in Selangor, securing a 3,382 majority victory over former minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun of Perikatan Nasional.
Danial successfully defended the seat, which has been held by the coalition since 2008, receiving 29,064 votes. Meanwhile, Rina garnered 25,682 votes and Muda’s Cheda Razak (full name Saiyidah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen) managed to secure 1,908 votes in the three-cornered fight.
The announcement of Danial’s victory was made by the returning officer Asmah Mohd Zin at around midnight at the counting centre in Dewan Besar Teratai MBSA, situated in Section 19, Shah Alam.
Prior to Danial’s victory, Batu Tiga was under the control of Pakatan’s PKR, with three-term assemblyman Rodziah Ismail as its representative. In the 2018 General Election, Rodziah won the state seat with a significant majority of 15,616 votes. However, in the 15th General Election last year, Rodziah contested as the Pakatan candidate for the Ampang parliamentary constituency and emerged victorious.
Danial, 38, an adjunct associate professor at a private university, expressed his commitment to continue Rodziah’s work and stated, “I have been supporting Rodziah since the 2008 General Election, and I have no issues in carrying on her legacy. Being a local resident of Shah Alam, I am well aware of the on-ground issues faced by the community.”
Post his win, Danial mentioned his plans to establish a service centre at a suitable location and emphasized his dedication to fulfilling the needs of the people of Batu Tiga.
