PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Afif Bahardin from Bersatu has won the N33 Taman Medan state seat in Petaling Jaya.

According to unofficial results, as of 9.45pm Saturday (Aug 12), Dr Afif won with a razor thin majority of a mere 30 votes.

He garnered 22,316 votes against Pakatan Harapan’s Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik’s 22,286.

Both candidates who were once comrades in PKR were locked in a straight fight for the Malay majority seat.

Dr Afif is the former Seberang Jaya assemblyman and was previously a state executive councillor in Penang.

He left PKR to join Bersatu in 2020.

Taman Medan is one of three seats under the Petaling Jaya parliamentary constituency with Seri Setia and Bukit Gasing as the other two seats.

In the 2018 General Election, Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri of Pakatan won the seat by obtaining 21,712 votes in a three-way fight.

He beat Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim from Barisan Nasional who polled 10,772 votes and Ariffin Mahaiyuddin from PAS who got 5,090 votes.
