A young volunteer who was recruited at the last minute is happy to help out at the polling centre in SK Seksyen 7 in Shah Alam, Selangor. 20-year-old Noor Hariz Hariri Nor Hashimi found out that another volunteer was unable to make it, so he decided to step in and offer his services instead.
“It’s been a fun experience so far, not like a real job but more about helping people,” said Hariz. “I arrived in the morning and sorted out my registration as a volunteer. I have been assigned as a clerk, assisting voters in checking their details at the registration counter. It’s an easy job – I just have to verify their personal information and direct them to their respective voting streams.”
However, Hariz noticed that many voters had already checked their voting streams before arriving at the centre, so they bypassed his counter. Despite this, he still sees the value in his role. When asked about his experience, he described it as unique and mentioned that he enjoys observing people and their antics at the polling centre.
Hariz also shared that he will be taking some time off to go vote at a nearby polling centre before the voting period ends. It is important to him to exercise his own right to vote.
