According to Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung, the chairman of STAR Media Group (SMG) Bhd, the company’s 52 years of experience has prepared it to adapt to future changes in the industry. Chor believes that The Star will continue to provide accurate and reliable news for Malaysians at home and abroad. He commended the newspaper for impacting the lives of Malaysians throughout the years.

During SMG’s 52nd anniversary celebration at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya, Chor expressed his gratitude to the hard-working employees who contributed to the company’s past achievements. The event also included a ceremony to honor long-serving employees who had been with the company for 15 and 25 years.

In a video, some of the recipients shared funny moments from their careers at SMG. One of the awardees, Erle Martin Carvalho, entertained the audience with a song while expressing his appreciation for the company. Despite having to rush off to report on Dewan Rakyat proceedings in Parliament, Carvalho performed the song “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

The anniversary celebration at Menara Star was well-attended, and the packed auditorium reflected the enthusiasm of the attendees. Bavani M, the news editor of StarMetro, received the 25-year long-service award and expressed her continued excitement to see her name published. She encouraged aspiring journalists to go out into the field and seek stories rather than waiting for them to come to the office.

The buffet lunch served during the celebration featured a wide variety of dishes. Jowyn Kwan, the content administration manager and another 15-year long-service award recipient, thanked her colleagues for their support and encouraged newcomers to embrace hard work and be open to new experiences.

Mohamad Asri Mohd Mokhtar, a senior security guard who received the 25-year long-service award, emphasized the importance of a sense of belonging within the company. He hoped that all departments would continue to foster a family spirit and camaraderie to maintain a great working environment.

The long-service awards were presented by Chor, CEO Alex Yeow, and SMG director Datuk Dr Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Rouse. The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony followed by lunch.
