PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has urged everyone to act responsibly and refrain from giving speeches that could incite conflict, tension, and anxiety in society.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) emphasized that this also encompasses making statements regarding Islamic religious matters and fatwas (religious edicts).
He stated that any religious matter, particularly those related to faith and Shariah, should be referred to the state Islamic religious authorities and certified scholars specialized in the discipline.
“All parties are urged to cease arguments and conflicts that may jeopardize the unity and peace of the nation. They should unite to advance the country and foster prosperity, competitiveness, and peace,” he stated in a report by Bernama.
Mohd Na’im also took into account the decree made by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor, who chairs the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI).
The Ruler emphasized the importance of all parties, especially political leaders, assuming responsibility for strengthening unity for the well-being of the country.
According to Mohd Na’im, all leaders must wholeheartedly accept and abide by Sultan Sharafuddin’s decree to prevent the misuse of religion for political gain.
Sultan Sharafuddin decreed that all parties, particularly political leaders, must refrain from issuing fatwas irresponsibly in order to preserve the unity of the people. He emphasized that his decree was impartial and aimed at preventing division among the people.
Mohd Na’im mentioned that the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) has mobilized all agencies to strengthen the unity and solidarity of Muslims through various initiatives and endeavors.
This includes enhancing the role of mosques and surau as centers for unifying the ummah.
