IPOH: The preparations for the state-level National Day 2023 celebration at the Indera Mulia Stadium here have been affected by a storm.

However, ACP Yahaya Hassan, the Ipoh district police chief, said that despite the damage, the event on Aug 31 will continue as various agencies have been assigned to repair the affected areas.

“Following reports received from the district control centre at about 5.45pm on Wednesday (Aug 30), it was confirmed that the stadium and several areas in Sungai Senam were hit by a storm,” Yahaya stated.

No injuries have been recorded, but reports of uprooted trees and impact on the preparations for the celebration have been received. The collapse of the main and guest tents, as well as the lamp posts, was also reported,” Yahaya added.

Yahaya also mentioned that the agencies responsible for repairing the damage include the Fire Department, People’s Volunteer Corps, Civil Defence Force, Public Works Department, Ipoh City Council, district office, and police.

“With the cooperation of everyone involved, we assure that the celebration will proceed as planned tomorrow,” Yahaya assured.

Footage and images of the incident had gone viral on various social media platforms earlier.
