The Menteri Besar of Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, has given RM1,000 in aid to 36 traders at the Ipoh Night Market who were affected by a storm that struck their market the day before National Day last week. He mentioned during a press conference that this small gesture of assistance is aimed at alleviating their burden, noting that a few traders have not yet reopened their stalls. Saarani stated that the Perak State Entrepreneur Secretariat (STeP) will coordinate with Tekun Nasional, Yayasan Perak, or other agencies to provide further help if necessary. The aid was presented at the market on Sunday, September 3.
The event was attended by Salbiah Mohamed, the Chairman of the Women, Family, Social Welfare and Entrepreneur Development Committee for the state, as well as Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, the Chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee. No casualties were reported from the storm that occurred around 5:30 PM on August 30. Nevertheless, the 36 stalls at the night market, including food trucks, suffered significant damage, with roofs being blown off. The estimated losses incurred by the Ipoh Night Market management exceed RM200,000, according to Bernama.
