KOTA KINABALU: Three boys aged 12 were saved from a swollen river in Kg Puru-Puru, Ranau district.

The boys were swimming in the Liwagu River when the current suddenly intensified and a rush of water came from upstream at 2.30pm on Tuesday (Oct 10).

They became trapped in the swollen river.

Ranau Fire Station chief Ridwan Mohd Taha, when contacted, explained that the boys swiftly swam towards some large rocks as they were unable to reach the riverbank.

“We received a call about the incident at 2.59pm, and a team was dispatched to save the victims,” he said.

Firefighters used a rope to reach the boys and brought them back to the riverbank one by one.

“Fortunately, all of them returned safely with no injuries,” Ridwan disclosed.

    Rescue operations concluded at 3.35pm.

It was not raining at the scene of the incident.
