KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic) has called on the people to strengthen their spirit of patriotism as well as preserve unity as the nation celebrates National Day on Aug 31.

The Chief Minister said this celebration belongs to all Malaysians, hence, everyone should stand firm in looking after the harmony and unity in the country.

“Don’t be influenced by anything negative that could jeopardise the harmony and unity to the extent it could lead to divisiveness,” he said, in his National Day message here on Wednesday (Aug 30).

“Every layer of the people must also remember and appreciate the contributions as well as sacrifices by the warriors and fighters who defended the sovereignty of our beloved country,” he added.

In parallel with the objectives of Malaysia Madani under the unity government, Hajiji said, the Sabah Maju Jaya development roadmap welcomes all measures and planning that could rebuild the nation’s strength.

This is in terms of socio-economic development and the well-being of the people, he added.

“Let us together appreciate the theme of the National Day celebrations this year which is “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan” (Malaysia Madani: The Commitment of Unity Fulfills Hope),” he said.
