The Mentri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, has stated that making Kuala Lumpur part of Selangor again would require strong political will due to a previous agreement. He added that the idea needs careful consideration and that there are many ideas to go through. He pointed out that there already exists an agreement for Kuala Lumpur to be placed under Federal administration and implementing the idea would necessitate strong political determination. These comments were made in response to a recent suggestion by Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung during a Dewan Rakyat sitting. The suggestion has received mixed reactions from stakeholders, who have expressed doubts about its feasibility.
Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari further stated that there is still room for the suggestion to be considered in the future. He made these remarks while launching the recently-completed upgrade of Jalan B23, Jalan Sungai Tua, and Persimpangan Kampung Bendahara in Selayang Baru.
Kuala Lumpur gained city status on February 1, 1972, and became a Federal Territory two years later. Currently, it comprises 11 parliamentary constituencies and is under the administration of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
