The attention of Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni (pic) has been garnered by M. Thasvenraj, a top-scorer from a B40 family, who appealed for help to gain admission to a public university of his choice. Thasvenraj, from Ampang, achieved 9 As in his SPM in 2021 and a CGPA 4.0 in both semesters in his matriculation programme this year. However, he was only offered a place for the Medical Imaging course at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA), which was his fifth choice. He wished that he had been offered his first choice, Universiti Malaya (UM), instead.
Thasvenraj, who states that he is from a low-income family with a single mother, sought help from Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and other politicians on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He asked for assistance in writing a support letter for his appeal to the Central University Admission Unit (UPU) to enroll in Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine.
In response to the tweet, Lukanisman clarified the matter and requested Thasvenraj to send him a direct message instead. Lukanisman was among several others who responded to the tweet.
Thasvenraj mentioned in the comments that his second, third, and fourth choices for admission were in medical faculties at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), respectively.
Tahniah Sdr Thasvenraj atas keputusan 4.00, boleh saya tahu tawaran yang diperolehi buat masa ini. Adakah perubatan? DM me
