According to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the stock of local white rice (BPT) in Selangor is sufficient to meet the monthly requirement of 45,500 tonnes. He added that the supply of BPT will start stabilising next month as rice production begins in Selangor.

Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated this information during a media conference after officiating the Ehsan Rahmah Sales Appreciation and launch of the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) new logo.

During the State Executive Council Meeting on Wednesday (Sept 20), the Selangor Padi and Rice Regulatory Division reported that they have sufficient rice supply and there is no need for panic buying by the people.

Amirudin mentioned that Selangor has an annual rice output capacity of 138,903.13 tonnes, produced on 18,061.53 hectares of padi cultivation land by 6,871 padi farmers. This is equivalent to an output of 4.19 tonnes per hectare. However, padi diseases and uncertain weather last year caused the production to drop to 75,000 tonnes in Sekinchan.

Starting from Thursday, residents in Selangor can purchase a 5kg bag of local rice for RM13 at seven locations, namely the Wisma PKPS outlet, Section 14 and the Ehsan PKPS outlet, Section 9 in Shah Alam, Ehsan PKPS outlet in Meru, Ehsan Kiosk in Selangor Fruit Valley, Bestari Jaya, and three Ehsan PKPS mobile sales trucks making their rounds in Selangor.

Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also mentioned that residents can contact the Selangor Padi and Rice Regulatory Division for any complaints about BPT supply, and the division will take action within 24 hours to address the issues. The contact numbers provided are 03-3289 8419 or 017-223 0771 via WhatsApp.
