KUALA LUMPUR: Suhaizan Kayat is set to be officially sworn in as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pulai on Tuesday, September 19th.
According to the Parliament calendar, Suhaizan is scheduled to take his oath as a member of the Dewan Rakyat at 10am on Tuesday.
In a by-election held on September 9th, the Pakatan Harapan coalition successfully defended both the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state seat. These seats were left vacant due to the unfortunate passing of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who held both positions.
Suhaizan emerged as the victor in the by-election, securing a significant majority of 18,641 votes over his competitors. His opponents included Zulkifli Jaafar from Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu, who received 29,642 votes, and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi, who only managed to secure 465 votes.
Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, aged 61 and also the former domestic trade and cost of living minister, sadly suffered a brain haemorrhage on Saturday, July 22nd. He underwent surgery the following morning, but unfortunately passed away on July 23rd.
