TANJUNG MALIM: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, officially opened SMK Proton City here.
Also present were Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, and Raja Di-Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.
Sultan Nazrin was warmly welcomed by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, as well as Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin upon arrival at 10.05am.
The ceremony began with the singing of the state anthem, followed by the recitation of Quranic verses and prayers, before Sultan Nazrin signed a plaque to mark the school’s opening.
According to Bernama, Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara then toured a mini exhibition set up by the students and teachers during a briefing by the school’s principal, Zalina Ahmad, before departing at about 11.30am.
In her speech, Fadhlina stated that SMK Proton City, located in the Behrang state constituency, commenced operations on Feb 5, 2018, with 42 classrooms and facilities such as a hall, field, surau, and canteen.
Situated approximately 9km from Tanjung Malim town, Fadhlina mentioned that the construction of the school on 9,349ha of land, costing RM29.9mil, began on July 28, 2015, and concluded on July 25, 2017.
The school currently boasts 675 students, 61 teachers, and seven support staff members.
Fadhlina revealed that the school administration had implemented the concept of mobile classrooms to optimize the utilization of all 42 classrooms.
Furthermore, she announced that for the SPM 2022 exams, all of the school’s candidates excelled in the Bahasa Melayu and history subjects, with three students achieving straight As.
The school also received recognition as the best school in the Muallim district.
