PUTRAJAYA: Brunei Ruler Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will visit Malaysia from Wednesday (Aug 2) to Thursday (Aug 4), according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra).
The state visit coincides with the 24th Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC), where both the Sultan of Brunei and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be in attendance.
The ALC serves as the highest bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam and will provide an opportunity for both leaders to review bilateral cooperation, discuss outstanding issues, and exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
During the visit, several bilateral instruments are expected to be signed.
The Sultan of Brunei will be welcomed at Istana Negara by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah on Aug 3.
Subsequently, the Sultan will have an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah followed by a state banquet in honor of the Sultan and the Bruneian delegation.
The visit by the Brunei Sultan aims to strengthen the longstanding ties and multifaceted cooperation between Malaysia and Brunei, as well as their partnership within ASEAN.
In 2022, Brunei Darussalam was Malaysia’s 26th largest trading partner and the 6th largest within ASEAN, with a total trade value of RM13.22 billion (US$2.98 billion), representing a 68.4% increase compared to 2021. – Bernama
