JOHOR BAHRU: The Sultan of Johor has stated his preparedness to fulfill his national duties for the country and people. Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, next in line to become the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, expressed his willingness to shoulder the responsibility. “It is not a promotion. It is a responsibility I am ready to undertake on behalf of my brother Rulers,” he explained in an exclusive interview with the Bernama team, led by Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, at his private residence here recently.
Honoring his top priority, His Majesty emphasized that the welfare of the people will always come first. “The rakyat (people) will always come first,” he stated. Sultan Ibrahim chose not to provide further details, stating that it would be best to wait until the meeting of the Conference of Rulers is concluded.
The Rulers are expected to select the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong on October 27 using a unique election system, with the likelihood that they will uphold the rotation system of choosing the new King from among the nine brother Rulers. The current and 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah of Pahang, is scheduled to complete his five-year reign at the end of January next year.
