JEMPOL: A 34-year-old company supervisor who claimed he was robbed by two armed men, prompting police to set up several roadblocks here, is now in trouble after it was learnt that the crime never happened.

Jempol police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the man reported that two men armed with machetes had robbed him of RM3,500 in company funds outside premises in Serting Tengah, Batu Kikir, at about 8.45pm Monday (Jan 8) night.

The man claimed he also lost a mobile phone and other important documents in the robbery.

“An alert was then sent out, and roadblocks were set up at seven locations in the district.

“However, when we continued to question the man, he finally admitted that he had not been robbed,” Supt Hoo said on Tuesday (Jan 9).

He added that 29 policemen had been stationed at the roadblocks.

Supt Hoo said police believed the man had lodged a false report as he had used RM2,160 to pay his overdue house and car instalments.

The case is being probed under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to cause a public servant to use lawful power against another person.

It provides a jail term of up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

“Do not lodge false reports as it wastes our time and resources investigating an incident that never took place,” Supt Hoo added.
