In Rembau, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan highlighted the global condemnation of Israel’s actions in Palestine and the violation of Palestinians’ rights as significant. He noted that 52 countries recently expressed their views at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), with almost all criticizing Israel and calling for action from the United Nations Security Council.
Mohamad pointed out that despite the UN and its Security Council passing multiple resolutions, Israel has persisted in committing acts that contravene international laws and norms. He mentioned that at the recent ICJ hearings from Feb 16 to 24, the majority of countries strongly opposed Israel’s actions, with only a few showing support for Israel, but their voices were overshadowed.
He emphasized the limited options for Israel currently and mentioned efforts to establish a two-state system for Palestine’s independence and recognition. Mohamad stated that Malaysia has consistently raised concerns about Israeli atrocities since 2004 and received significant support from the international community this time.
During Malaysia’s presentation at the ICJ public hearing on Feb 22, Mohamad called for Israel to cease all related policies and practices, as well as to withdraw from the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) immediately. He also expressed Malaysia’s commitment to supporting South Africa’s resolution against the genocide in Palestine perpetrated by Israel.
