KUALA LUMPUR: A heated argument between a husband and wife took a violent turn as the husband choked his wife out of anger. The incident, which occurred on July 6, resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old Burmese man after his wife filed a report. Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail provided details of the incident, stating that it all began after the complainant had taken their child to a clinic for medical treatment. The argument escalated when the complainant realized she had forgotten her phone and needed to retrieve money from home, leaving their child behind at the clinic. “When she reached home, the complainant asked the suspect about something, but he became furious, verbally abused her, and proceeded to choke and beat her,” Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said. The victim reported the incident to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The suspect, who had no prior criminal record, tested negative for drugs during a urine test. A medical examination of the victim revealed soft tissue injuries on her left cheek, forehead, hand, and neck. Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail determined that the cause of the altercation was a misunderstanding arising from the visit to the clinic. Both the husband and wife hold United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards.
