KUCHING: Deepavali is an opportune time for everyone to come together, says the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS).

Its chairman Datuk Danald Jute called on Sarawakians to continue building and strengthening their harmonious and peaceful coexistence through understanding and respect.

“While we cannot deny our differences, we must acknowledge that we have more in common than what separates us,” he said, extending the Christian community’s Deepavali greetings to the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities on Thursday (Oct 31).

Danald said Sarawak’s diversity was a cause for celebration and not division.

“This is how we can build a better, stronger and more united Sarawak and Malaysia,” he added.
