KUCHING: The Sarawak government led by Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is currently working on the development of the second phase of the Darul Hana housing project. This initiative aims to resettle families from villages in Seberang Hilir, with phase two expected to be completed by 2026.

Abang Johari mentioned that phase two specifically involves relocating approximately 200 families from Kampung Pulo Ulu. In addition to this, efforts are being made to develop the Sungai Bedaun housing project to facilitate the relocation of extended families from Seberang Hilir. The Premier shared these details with reporters after attending an event marking the breaking of fast at Darul Hana on Wednesday night.

The state government is looking into identifying another area for further development of Darul Hana, ensuring proximity to existing villages. Darul Hana is a significant urban renewal project by the Sarawak government, designed to transform 12 Malay villages along the Sarawak River into a modern housing area that blends traditional values with a smart township concept.

During a session at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly last November, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan revealed that phase one of the Darul Hana project involved the relocation of 318 families from Kampung Semarang and Kampung Panglima Seman Lama. By October 31, 2023, 258 families had already moved to Darul Hana, with the rest expected to follow suit in the first quarter of the current year.

At the iftar event, Abang Johari and his wife Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang distributed Raya contributions totalling RM19,500 to 130 asnaf and orphans from villages within the Darul Hana project area. This philanthropic event is part of an annual programme organized by the Sarawak Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) in collaboration with residents of the Darul Hana project.
