KUALA LUMPUR: Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan is taking legal action against Bangi PAS chief Mohd Shafie Ngah for allegedly making defamatory statements about him. Syahredzan, through his lawyer, has sent a letter of demand to Mohd Shafie, seeking an apology and compensation for the alleged slander.
The alleged defamatory statements were made by Mohd Shafie during two Perikatan Nasional events held in October 2022 and July 2023. These statements were not only covered by the media but also circulated on social media.
Syahredzan emphasized that the disputed statements are completely false and slanderous. In a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 12), he stated, “I do not intend to repeat those slanderous statements here.”
As a member of DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang’s team, Syahredzan is no stranger to criticism. However, he criticized the Perikatan party for resorting to slander and hatred instead of engaging in mature and healthy politics.
If Mohd Shafie does not meet Syahredzan’s demands within 48 hours, legal action will be taken against him. Syahredzan’s lawyer has been instructed to investigate further into Mohd Shafie’s speech during a Perikatan talk in Bangi, which took place on Sunday (July 9).
