MELAKA: The Syariah High Court here has granted a surety bond application from the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) against three children of the former founder of the deviant al-Arqam sect who have alleged links to the Global Ikhwan Sendirian Berhad (GISB) Holdings business network.
Syariah Judge Mohd Yunus Mohamad Zin set the bond at RM1,000 each for the three brothers, aged 35, 42, and 45 years, respectively with three sureties on Sunday (Sept 22).
JAIM enforcement officers earlier submitted an application to allow the three to assist in the investigation under Section 63 of the Syariah Offences Enactment (State of Melaka) 1991 for allegedly insulting Islam.
The Section carries a maximum penalty of a RM5,000 fine or imprisonment up to 36 months, or both, upon conviction.
The court also set the next mention date on Oct 10.
Earlier, the three individuals arrived at the Syariah Court Complex at Ayer Keroh here in grey robes accompanied by JAIM officers.
On Saturday (Sept 21), several premises owned by the GISB network across the state were raided by the authorities.
The raids, which began at 7am in three districts, resulted in the arrest of 24 individuals and the rescue of 19 children at a residence suspected to belong to a GISBH group member in Kuala Sungai Baru at Alor Gajah, here.
Also arrested were two men and three women following police raids on a charitable organisation, a restaurant, a curtain shop, a mini market, a bakery, and a factory processing instant noodles in Serkam, Jasin.
The series of raids, led by the Melaka police, also involved officers from the Melaka Welfare Department, JAIM, The Registrar of Societies and the Companies Commission of Malaysia.
