KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has set Nov 18 as the date to deliver its decision on Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s leave application over his claims that the government had withdrawn its allocation intended for his constituency.
Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh fixed the date after hearing submissions from both parties here on Monday (Sept 23).
Syed Saddiq, the Muar MP, applied for leave on April 23, along with three voters in his constituency.
The other three are Najib Abu Nawar, Mohd Bakirudin Abdullah and Muhamad Fadzly Bisri.
Najid is the chairperson of a parent-teacher association at a school in Muar, while Mohd Bakiruddin and Muhamad Fadzly are imams and chairpersons from two different surau in the constituency.
They named Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government as the first and second respondents.
The applicants sought a certiorari order to quash a decision by the respondents that halted the transfer of the balance of RM500,000, out of RM1.7mil, that was supposed to be channelled directly to the Muar public service centre.
The funds were meant to cover the expenses of welfare programmes for the Muar constituents.
The applicants also seek the reinstatement of Syed Saddiq’s access to the myKHAS system, which he claims the respondents revoked.
In the supporting affidavit, affirmed by Syed Saddiq, the parliamentarian said that on Sept 10, last year, Muda had decided to pull its support from the unity government led by the first respondent.
Shortly after the announcement, Syed Saddiq claimed that the RM500,000 balance in his allocation was stopped or revoked.
He said the allocation was meant to fix public amenities like schools and surau.
The applicants are also seeking damages, relief and costs.
