KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s efforts to address leakages in public funds, as highlighted in the 2020 and 2021 Auditor-General’s Reports, and the strengthening of Syariah courts’ rights and position will be discussed in Parliament on Monday (Oct 30).

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, Wong Kah Woh (PH-Taiping) will question the Prime Minister during the question and answer session about the issue of fund leakages and the criticisms raised in the report.

In the same session, Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) will inquire about the government’s measures to strengthen the rights and position of Syariah courts as provided for in the Constitution, as well as expanding their functions to enhance Syariah law in the country.

Furthermore, Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) will query the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister regarding the government’s efforts to control the prices of essential commodities, such as sugar, rice, and other basic necessities, which are currently burdening the people.

    V. Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) will direct a question to the Local Government Development Minister about the new policy of increased involvement of Members of Parliament in standardizing local policies in their respective areas.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) will seek information from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation about their plans to expand the use of internet services through Starlink by launching Malaysia’s own satellite.

After the session, there will be a policy-level winding-up session by each ministry for the 2024 Supply Bill.

This winding-up session will last for four days, starting today, followed by a 12-day debate on the bill at the committee level commencing on November 6.
