According to Dewan Negara president Datuk Mutang Tagal, the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud made a lasting impact on Sarawak’s history and its people during his long career of over 60 years. Tagal mentioned that the former governor had played a crucial role in the development and progress of the state. His passing is deeply felt in Sarawak and the entire nation, as he was remembered for his visionary leadership, dedication to public service, and efforts to improve the lives of the people.

He added that Abdul Taib left behind a legacy of progress, development, and unity, which will continue to inspire future generations to work for the betterment of Sarawak and its people. Furthermore, Tagal expressed his gratitude to Abdul Taib for providing him with the opportunity to begin his political career at a young age.

Tagal noted some of Abdul Taib’s significant accomplishments, including the establishment of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak in Kota Samarahan, the Bintulu Development Authority to maximize the use of Sarawak’s oil and gas resources, and the creation of new administrative divisions such as Mukah, Betong, and Samarahan. He also mentioned the development initiatives in and around the cities of Kuching and Miri. Additionally, Abdul Taib was pivotal in the establishment of various industrial parks, which not only created job opportunities but also contributed to the overall development of the surrounding areas.

Tagal highlighted the establishment of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy in 2008, which laid the groundwork for the region to capitalize on its natural resources and promote sustainable development. Furthermore, he mentioned several statutory bodies that were led by Abdul Taib, such as the Land Custody and Development Authority, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, and Sacofa Sdn Bhd. He also recognized the expansion of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation and Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority, overseen by Abdul Taib.
