Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has paid tribute to the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, describing him as a national political figure who made significant contributions to both his home state of Sarawak and the nation as a whole.
Shafie expressed his condolences to Taib’s family and the people of Sarawak, emphasizing Taib’s role not only as the chief minister of Sarawak, but also as a federal minister, serving in positions such as Information minister and Defence minister.
He also highlighted Taib’s efforts in unifying the diverse cultures and communities of Sarawak during his tenure as chief minister, bringing together Bidayus, Ibans, Malays, Melanaus, and others under a single governance.
Furthermore, Shafie emphasized Taib’s crucial role in the development of Sarawak, acknowledging his significant contributions to the state’s progress and growth.
Shafie concluded by offering prayers for Taib’s soul, wishing for his blessed placement among the righteous.
Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud passed away at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur at 4.40am on Wednesday, February 21.
