The police have detained a 32-year-old man suspected of robbing and sexually assaulting a 75-year-old woman in Pokok Assam, Taiping. Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid explained that the unemployed suspect was apprehended at approximately 3.30pm on Tuesday, around seven hours after the incident occurred. ACP Razlam revealed that during the incident, the suspect entered the victim’s porch and forcefully took her inside before violating her modesty. He further disclosed, “The suspect, who covered his face with a cloth, then escaped in a car belonging to a family member of the victim. It is estimated that he stole valuables and money worth around RM5,000.” The victim’s family member’s car was subsequently discovered 1.3km away from the house. The suspect is scheduled to be held in custody from August 16 to 22 to facilitate the ongoing investigation. ACP Razlam noted, “We will be investigating the matter under Section 392/397/354 of the Penal Code,” and he also mentioned that the suspect tested positive for heroin. He urged individuals with any information regarding criminal activities to come forward and assist the police in combating crime in the district.
