Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan of Perikatan Nasional criticized the unity government for unequal allocations for MPs. He accused the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional government of playing games and wavering on the issue of allocations for Perikatan MPs. Takiyuddin highlighted that when Perikatan was the ruling government, opposition MPs received the same allocations as government MPs. He called for an end to undignified politics and urged respect for the people’s rights and the rights of states. He warned that the people would not tolerate such behavior.

Takiyuddin also discussed the longstanding disparity in economic development between regions, which has existed since colonial times. While he welcomed the government’s efforts to address this issue, he emphasized the need for a solution based on rights, responsibility, justice, and genuine awareness, rather than election tactics or populist measures that change with the current needs. He criticized the use of economic development as political bribery and a tool to bully states into accepting the Federal Government’s wishes.

According to Takiyuddin, states that have voted for the Opposition continue to be treated unfavorably. He also accused Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of traveling in three helicopters for a government program in Sungai Besar, Selangor, and claimed that the Works Department was instructed to construct a helipad in the area. Takiyuddin cited a news report about Anwar rejecting renovation expenses for his official residence and vehicles to save money for the poor, but he claimed that Anwar wanted to use a helicopter instead.

Takiyuddin’s accusation caused uproar among government MPs who demanded he retract his statement. MP Sim Tze Tzin accused Takiyuddin of making unfounded accusations and slandering the Prime Minister. Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor intervened, telling Sim that Takiyuddin had the right to speak without interruptions. However, MP Dr Taufiq Johari argued that Takiyuddin’s statement was malicious, citing Standing Order 36(6). Ramli suggested that Sim file a motion specifying the slanderous parts so they could be cross-checked for accuracy.

The Dewan Rakyat is currently holding a special six-day sitting to debate the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review.
