SLOPE stabilisation works at the landslide-hit area in Taman Bukit Permai in Ampang Jaya, Selangor have been completed.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Dr Ani Ahmad said the project was finalised by Malaysian Institute of Public Works (Ikram) in August and the slope was in the process of being handed over to the council.
However, the relocation of 15 families, who were asked to vacate their homes in Jalan Bukit Permai 1, will be handled by the disaster management committee led by the Hulu Langat Land and Mines Office.
“The slope is stable now and we hope there will not be anymore landslide incidents.
“The 15 houses on top of the slope will be demolished as they were found to be structurally unsafe following the landslide in March 2022,” she said after chairing the full board meeting.
It was reported that the slope works, which started in May last year, cost RM15mil.
Slope failure led to a massive landslide that claimed four lives on March 10 last year.
This led to the evacuation of residents from nearby Taman Mega Jaya and Taman Bukit Permai 2.
Besides the 15 houses, 10 vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
Meanwhile, Ani said the cutting and pruning of trees on 61 slopes categorised as dangerous were almost done in preparation for the rainy season.
“This is a preventive measure so the trees do not burden the slopes.
“I understand that some Ampang Jaya community members were upset when the tree- cutting started.
“This is part of the procedure for slope maintenance and monitoring and we will engage with residents in future,” she said.
Out of 356 slopes under MPAJ’s jurisdiction, 61 were identified as dangerous.
